This site is dedicated to the loving memory of

my mother-mentor, sister-friend, Christina Jarvis.

Not sure of the value of labour support? Although not providing these services anymore, you can view a short video (here) with comments from past clients of Carol-Anne's regarding how valuable they found doula and breastfeeding support. The birth of your child is a memory you will cherish forever, why not put supports in place to help you have a positive experience! Partners love the extra support and guidance to.

The AIDS/HIV tragedy has had a devastating affect on South Africa. As a result there has been an increase in the number of orphaned and abandoned babies. The country is struggling to provide care for the estimated 1.5 million orphans. Daphne Banks is an amazing woman who has dedicated her life to giving these children the love and hope they deserve. She has started a wonderful transitional home (eSimphiwe - "Gift from God") that offers stimulation, love, adoption connections and even community support programs. Please offer your support by visiting eSimphiwe and contributing whatever you can manage. They desperately need all types of items, volunteers and of course financial support. Your heart will ache when you see these beautiful but needy children, many of whom have suffered greatly.

Carol-Anne Brockington is the mother of six children. She is the proud life mate of James Brockington. She founded this website as a means to advertise her services as a doula, CBE and breastfeeding consultant. Carol-Anne is now enrolled in the Midwifery Education Program at Ryerson University and is no longer able to offer these services. However, by the time she started the program the website was receiving 260,000 hits or 8,000 visitors a month and she was reluctant to just shut it down. The site has now grown and is receiving close to 20,000 visitors a month!

www.TheBirthDen.com has now become a resource for pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and parenting options. Carol-Anne's vision is to create a website containing basic information on these options while providing visitors with a portal to more detailed information, resources and practitioners. This website is a labour of love for Carol-Anne as she donates her time, energy and resources to keep it active. With this in mind, please be patient when requesting changes/additions and directly contact the practitioners listed for answers to your questions. If you need a referral to a practitioner and cannot find information on the website, please contact Carol-Anne at thebirthden@yahoo.ca. All of the businesses/organizations are listed because Carol-Anne feels that they may be of interest to expectant and new parents. She does not receive ANY financial incentive to list any of those listed on this site. Many of the pages on this site are under construction. Please check back frequently as more are being updated/added regularly.

You may notice a rather annoying but necessary security feature on this website. Since the site contains photographs and video clips of sensitive material, it is important that these files be protected for the families that are willing to share them. For this reason visitors are not allowed to right click on any links on this site. If you do, your browser may close the page. All of the text files that are not copyrighted can be opened and saved on your computer with a left click. Video clips and pictures can also be viewed with a left click. If you need further help or would like to request a copy of any protected files, please contact Carol-Anne and she will put you in touch with the appropriate family to request permission. Thank you for your understanding in this.

INVITATION TO PREGNANT WOMEN

Free labour support by midwifery students

We invite you to participate in the Midwifery Education Program if your baby is due between October 1, 2006 and November 20, 2006 There are students still looking for women to support in the Newmarket, Scarborough, Beaches, Orangeville and other areas of Toronto. You do not need to live directly within these towns only within about a 20-30 minute travel time from them.

The student will visit you at your home, accompany you to a prenatal class or visit, attend during labour and birth, and she will visit you in the hospital or home following the birth.  The visits will be arranged at your convenience.  She will be available to assist you as a support person during labour.  She can provide comfort measures such as massage and drinks, as permitted, at your request.  The student will be most interested in what you think and feel about being pregnant and having a baby.  The student will not be providing clinical care and will not in any way replace the care you receive from your family physician, obstetrician, midwife or nurses.  For more information click here.
